There are increasing numbers of traveling families out there who are realizing the benefits of World School as either the primary education or a form of enrichment for their children. Here is a list of some of our favorite and more active travel blogs.
Sarah is a teacher by nature and by training. Her family has been traveling extensively around the world to remote and isolated regions by boat. She’s a great writer, has good personal insights, and an adventurous spirit. Not to mention her husband Mark has great photography skills.
Lainie is a huge proponent of World Schooling! She’s a community builder and networker with a lot of resources and experience!! She runs retreats for teenagers, hosts a conference, and attends speaking engagements. She’s been traveling the world and writing about her journey with her son, Miro.
This family of 5 is on their 9th year of World Schooling. They have circumnavigated the world on their sailboat, spent a brief time home in the states, and are out again! Behan is a great writer and amazing resource on “how to” do most anything. Sailing, parenting, finances, education, etc.
They are a family of four who travel for up to six months every year. They focus on teaching their children through first hand experiences. When not traveling, they focus on teaching their kids through life-learning, increasing their self-sufficiency, and building community.
Can you get a better name? The parents are a geologist and a teacher who are learning intentionally as they travel. They have travel planning, about their trips, books for sale, and blogger tips.
This family of four moved onto their boat in January 2015 and left from San Diego with limited sailing experience. Her hope is to inspire and show that you can travel with kids, little experience, and a limited budget and still survive! Not only that, they seem to be thriving!! They have now crossed the Pacific Ocean and can no longer claim “limited sailing experience” as they did when they had set out! One of my favorite parts is that she publishes her monthly budget of expenses so others can size up the cost of cruising.
This family of four is based in the US and the mom is a self proclaimed “National Park Junkie.” She writes a lot of reviews and top things to do in many different locations. She also has recommendations for Disney travel and other amusement parks.
The Jones family is from Indiana, therefore go by the Indiana Joneses. Their mission is to inspire others to expand their horizons, allow others to learn through their experiences, and motivate others to take their own adventures. They give hiking tips, discuss their mishaps, gear information, and location information.
As a traveling family of six, they have had many experiences. There is not a moment that they “left” per se, but she wrote her ‘About Us’ on her blog back in 2011. She describes herself as exceptionally ordinary – middle class, middle America, average house, average kids, and yet they do the extraordinary. They homeschool and learn through life and travel experiences. They talk about travel tips, family matters, destination guides, and traveling with toddlers. She has a fun and honest writing style.
